Youth Programs
Northern Illinois Martial Arts Institute (NIMAI) provides the instruction for the Byron Park District’s Tae Kwon Do classes! These classes are geared toward developing and improving students’ coordination, balance, flexibility, and physical strength as well as assisting with confidence, focus, discipline, and sportsmanship. Learn traditional and freestyle Tae Kwon Do including forms, weapons, sparring, and self-defense techniques not only as an avenue to gain many fitness benefits but to develop many other qualities that will benefit them in other sports and wellness activities as well as everyday life.

Jiu Jitsu for self defense and Sport. Judo was introduced in 1882 as a sport utilizing the Jiu Jitsu style of fighting. Jiu Jitsu is the ancient martial art of Japan which uses strikes, wrist locks, arm bars, chokes, takedowns, throws, and grappling. Emphasis is placed on using an opponent’s size and strength against them. These are the techniques used by the Marine Corp. as well as law enforcement agencies around the world. Join the Northern Illinois Martial Arts Institute instructors at the Byron Park District to learn these techniques of self-defense and sport!!

J & J Tumbling and Trampoline from Pecatonica, IL will be offering recreational tumbling instructions in Byron for boys and girls, ages 3-8 years. J & J's forty-two year old comprehensive and sequential program of instruction has produced many state and national champions, resulting in numerous individual and team awards. Now is the perfect time for your child to learn the elements of tumbling. It is a great motor development sport for all children.
