Tiger Sharks is a competitive age-group swim team affiliated with Illinois Swimming and United States Swimming Associations. A team structure of a beginner and advanced (competitive) group offers your child a chance to develop and improve his/her swim stroke technique and endurance while advancing competitively. In order to ensure developmentally appropriate training and practice intensity, the amount and duration of practices are determined by their age category.

   Tiger Shark team information is relayed via e-mails, so you must provide an e-mail address when registering.

Beginner Group     
The pre-requisite for this training group is the ability to swim front and back crawl unassisted for 25 yds. In this training group, all four competitive swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke & butterfly) will be taught and swimmers will briefly be introduced to racing starts and turns. The main focus of the group will be on stroke development, technique and endurance. Beginner group practices are offered four times per week and swimmers should consistently attend a minimum of two to three practices per week. Swimmers in this group are required to become members of the United States Swimming ($68/year fee) and expected to attend at least one meet per session (Turkey Shoot or Conference Meet). Practices for this group will end before Championship Meets.

Advanced (Competitive) Group
The pre-requisite for this training group is the ability to perform all four competitive strokes, racing starts and flip turns and the desire to advance competitively. In this training group, swimmers continue to work on stroke technique, with the main focus on conditioning and competitive skills. Swimmers in this group, should consistently attend four to five practices per week. Dry land exercises will be incorporated into the set work-out times. Swimmers in this group are required to become members of United States Swimming ($68/year fee) and expected to participate in all home meets, conference meets, championship meets in which he/she qualifies and a minimum of one meet per month (additional fees required). Practices for this group will continue through whatever championship meet a swimmer qualifies.

- Additional fees ($5, $10 or $20) are charged each day for participation in swim meets 
- Parents will need to take turns as a volunteer lane timer at most swim meets 
- Parents of all swimmers are expected to participate in team fundraising. Typical fundraising includes volunteering at home meet and donating 
   concession supplies for home meets

The Byron Tiger Sharks Swim Team is a member of the United States Swim Association and Illinois Swimming Association. This membership provides swimmers the opportunity to compete in time qualifying USS sanctioned swim meets. These agencies also provide valuable training opportunities and safety standards for swim coaches. Lastly, membership provides all swimmers with tertiary medical insurance coverage during practice and meets. All swimmers participating on the Byron Tiger Sharks Swim Team are required to become members of USA and Illinois Swimming Associations. Membership fees are $68 per swimmer each calendar year

Fundraising & Social Activities  

All Tiger Shark families are expected to participate in team fundraising. Typical fundraising includes volunteering at home meets and donating concession supplies for home meets.. Our main fund raiser includes hosting swim meets. The coach will inform families of other fund raising opportunities each session.


As of July 2015, we have entered into an agreement with The Swimming Life. This company will supply the team with suits, caps, swim gear, team and fan apparel, swim meet vending gear, free Team Banner, free

championship t-shirts for qualifying swimmers and coaches (state level or higher) and other various swim gear discounts. More information will be available in the Fall of 2015.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               The Byron Park District office also sells BTS latex caps for $6.00 each and BTS silicone caps for $13.00 each..
