|Aquatic Facility||Pool Activities|
Pool Description: All Park District aquatic activities are held in the Byron High School Swimming Pool, which is a six-lane 25 yard indoor pool equipped with a one meter diving board. Pool depth ranges from 4 ft. to 12 ft.
Pool Temperature: The High School swimming pool’s water temperature is maintained between 81 - 83 degrees. This temperature allows for both competitive swim usage and park district activities to be offered using the same facility.
Easy Ladder & Chair Lift: The Park District now owns an “Easy Ladder,” which is a non-vertical gradual step ladder designed to help arthritic, elderly or handicap individuals enter and exit the pool safely. To utilize, please ask the lifeguard or PE Center supervisor on duty. In addition, we have an ADA compliant chair lift available. Please call ahead so that we can make sure the chair lift battery is charged.
Locker Facilities: Public locker rooms are available for patrons of the PE Center, pool and racquetball courts. Children, 5 years and older must use the locker room of their gender. We do not supply locks or towels. Locks should be used only during the time in which you are utilizing the facility. The Park District is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Open Swim: The pool is open to the entire community. Swim noodles, diving rings, lifejackets, and various balls are available for use during all open swims. All children under ten (10) years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult, 18 years or older. Due to the Illinois Dept. of Public Health Code, all children who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers.
Lap Swim: The Byron High School pool is the perfect pool for lap swimming! Kick boards and pull buoys are the only equipment provided. Please note that lap swim times may occur during other aquatic activities. One or two lap lanes will be available during these other aquatic activities.
Water Walking: Let your natural buoyancy and resistance of the water help you improve your joint strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Water walking belts are available for patron use during lap swim.
Group Usage: Groups may rent the pool or use it during open swim times. Please contact the Park District in advance, so we have sufficient guards on duty.
Aquatic Programs: Refer to pages 12-25 in the Byron Park District Brochure to find your favorite aquatic program.
