In 2001, the Byron Park District purchased 9.38 acres of land on
Mill Road for the first park in the District’s history. This
land was purchased with a grant of $62,500 from OSLAD.
In 2005, the District applied for a developmental grant to turn
the land into a park the surrounding neighborhoods could enjoy.
In January 2006, the District received notice they were awarded
a grant of $225,000 from OSLAD. In June 2006, construction was
begun and by June 2007, Blackhawk Meadows Park was completed and
open for the public to enjoy.
Facilities within the park include two sets of play equipment
for different age groups, two half-court basketball courts, two
backstops for ball playing, a large picnic pavilion with tables
that can be reserved for group picnics, and a 1/3 mile perimeter
path for walking or jogging.
