Comprehensive Parks & Recreation Master Plan

In December 2013, the Byron Park District collaborated with Design Perspectives Inc. (Consultant) to develop a Comprehensive Parks & Recreation Master Plan. Over a course of about 7 months of analyzing information and attaining feedback from the community groups and individuals the Master Plan was approved by the Board of Commissioners in July 2014. The Master Plan identifies specific future tasks and provides recommendations on capital improvement projects to be implemented in the form of a year by year action plan.

Summer/Fall 2015

As a result of the Master Plan, the Park District …
 -- has attained both Hamas Park and Tiger Town Park from the City of Byron;
 -- has submitted two Open Space Lands Acquisition & Development (OSLAD) grant applications to the Illinois Department
    of Natural Resources (IDNR), one grant is for the re-development of Hamas Park and the second grant is for the
    acquisition of additional property for future park development;
-- is looking to re-develop Tiger Town Park in the year 2015;

2012 Community Survey / Strategic Plan

As part of the Park Districts development of a Strategic Plan, we conducted a community survey in September 2012 which was mailed to random households in the city, available on-line, and posted at our main office. The input received from the survey was very valuable to us for future planning and implementation of quality services for the Byron area. We want to thank everyone who participated and for taking the time to complete it and return it to us.

The results from the survey as well as information attained at community meetings and internal consultations provided the Park District the components to establish our Strategic Plan. On December 18, 2012 the Strategic Plan was approved and adopted at the Board of Commissioners regular meeting. We thank you for your support and participation. If you have any questions, please contact the Executive Director at 815-234-5491 x232. To see a copy of the Strategic Plan, please click on the following link.        Strategic Plan
